Assistant Director Jill Sanborn of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division released the following statement concerning the sentencing of Enrique Marquez, Jr. Marquez was sentenced in California to 20 years in federal prison for conspiring to commit terrorist attacks and for providing assault rifles later used in the 2015 San Bernardino terrorist attack that killed 14 people.
Today, we remember the victims, their families, and the larger community impacted by the tragic events of December 2, 2015. They are forever affected by this senseless tragedy.
I would like to thank our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners for their tireless investigative efforts in this case, as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Central District of California, for their relentless pursuit of justice.
Mr. Marquez, in purchasing the weapons, facilitated this deadly terrorist attack. Today’s sentence emphasizes the FBI’s commitment to aggressively pursue, and to hold accountable, not only those individuals who commit acts of terrorism but also those who conspire with and provide support and resources to terrorists.
