Readout of Vice President Harris’s Meeting with Prime Minister Davis of The Bahamas

Vice President Kamala Harris today met with Prime Minister Philip Davis of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in Nassau, in advance of the U.S.-Caribbean Leaders Meeting, which the Vice President co-hosted with Prime Minister Davis, current chair of the Caribbean Community. The Vice President welcomed the upcoming celebration of the 50-year anniversary of the independence of The Bahamas and of diplomatic relations between the United States and The Bahamas. The Vice President and Prime Minister Davis discussed our shared efforts to address the climate crisis, including through the U.S.-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis 2030, which the Vice President launched in June 2022 at the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles. They discussed accelerating the transition to clean energy, strengthening climate resilience and disaster preparedness.

The Vice President welcomed Prime Minister Davis’s commitment to join the Green Shipping Challenge. The Vice President and Prime Minister Davis discussed the security and humanitarian crisis in Haiti and efforts underway to address firearms trafficking in the region. In recognition that June is LGBTQI+ Pride Month, the Vice President underscored the Biden-Harris Administration’s continued support for human rights and LGBTQI+ rights and inclusive democracy around the world, including in The Bahamas.
