DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNC Women’s Caucus Chair Lottie Shackelford released the following statement for Women’s Equality Day:

102 years ago today, the Nineteenth Amendment was adopted to the United States Constitution, granting many women the right to vote — a right that would not become a reality for women of color until 1965. Because of these hard-won victories, the political power of women continues to shape this country and millions of Americans can use their voices at the ballot box.

Democrats continue to build on this progress. From the election of Vice President Harris, to the confirmation of Secretary Haaland, to the confirmation of Justice Jackson, we celebrate the path-breaking women who have made immeasurable contributions to our party and our nation.

Today, we honor those who fought hard for the right to vote, those who have fought for our civil rights, and all of the women across the country who carry their legacy forward. The Democratic Party is proud to fight for reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, equal pay, and more as we continue to build a more perfect union.
